KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan Muhammad V resigned as Yang di-Pertuan Agong XV today.
Datuk Pengkalan Bijaya Royal Palace, Datuk Wan Ahmad Dahlan Ab Aziz, said his resignation was in line with Article 32 (3) of the Federal Constitution.
"To honor His Majesty the Royal Highness King Yang di-Pertuan Agong XV, Sultan Muhammad V, hereby the Istana Negara informed that Your Majesty the Royal Highness His Majesty resigned as Yang di-Pertuan Agong XV with effect from 6 January (Sunday) equivalent to 29 Rabiulakhir 1440H pursuant to Article 32 (3) of the Federal Constitution.
"During his tenure as Yang di-Pertuan Agong, he tried to fulfill his responsibility and trust as the Head of State, serving as the pillar of stability, the source of justice, the solidarity and unity of the people.
"Your Majesty expressed his gratitude to His Majesty the Kings who voted for him as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong from 13 December 2016," he said in a statement today.
